This Thing Is String Original Strinsel Undyed Cotton String.

Tinsel is Christmas through and through, it shimmers, glitters and makes the tree sing, but the reality is often PVC strands destined for landfill come January. Original Strinsel is a thoughtful alternative: hand-crafted from 100% cotton string and thread at the maker’s oak dining table. Each 2-metre length captures the look of snow resting on fir branches, soft, understated and timeless. Designed to be treasured year after year, Strinsel brings heirloom charm without the plastic guilt.

Please note: Strinsel should never be cut to size as it will unravel. Keep at least 1m away from open flames, candles, or heat sources. No fire retardants are used.

What We Love

  • A sustainable, plastic-free twist on classic Christmas décor

  • Each piece feels nostalgic yet fresh, heirloom decorations to pass down

  • Crafted from Everlasto polished cotton twine, a heritage material made in Bolton for over 150 years

  • Small-batch, handmade, and packaged using recycled or compostable materials

From the Maker:

Strinsel began as an experiment with offcuts of string from my other projects. At first, I worried it looked like an old mop — until I hung it on the tree and realised it resembled real snow on the branches. Since then, Strinsel has become part of my family’s Christmas tradition, lovingly wrapped and brought out each year. I create every length at my old oak dining table, working only with humble string and thread to reimagine the everyday in ways that feel festive, sustainable and just a little bit magical.”
