Radical Giving - Black & Blum Good Business - Uprising Interview

What's your life motto?

You can’t regret what you haven’t done.

What have you learnt so far?

You can only do your best, but whatever you are doing, give it your full focus. You can’t predict the future, or change the past, so live in the moment. Focus on spending as much time on the things that you enjoy, so you live to work, not work to live. Try to be kind to others and appreciate when people are kind to you.

Where is your favourite place?

Scotland.

Name your three favourite words?

Passion, environmental, challenge.

What do you think makes a good company?

People. If you establish a great team, then it makes everything else so much easier.

Can you describe your workplace?

Informal and open plan. We moved office a few years ago and it has made such a difference. We’re still in the same area of London (near Borough Market), but the new office has a lot more space, our own kitchen and meeting rooms. Before, we were crammed into a very small office that was too hot in summer and too cold in winter. The new office feels a lot more grown up, but makes it a pleasure to go to… when we are allowed.

What is your favourite food?

Thai.

What can you not live without?

My family…

What is the last thing you bought?

A book…Groupthink: A Study in Self Delusion Paperback – by Mr Christopher Booker…recommended by a friend.

What advice would you give to the younger generation?

Time speeds up the older you get…cherish every moment.

Proudest moment?

Changes from day to day, with three young children.

What’s next?

Who knows after the last 12 months of Covid… but on a company viewpoint, we’re really excited about the future as we have some really exciting new designs launching over the next three years. As a designer, I’m always excited about our latest designs.
