Good Business: Katie of Bee Green Wraps (2 min Read)
Can you tell our readers a little about what you do and your journey so far?
We are Bee Green Wraps - we make high quality, organic, reusable beeswax wraps on an organic small holding near Sydney, Australia and import them to the UK by boat to ensure they are as ‘green’ as possible.
Our wraps are different to many others as we use thick cotton and sustainable dammar oil rather than cheaper pine resin, which means that they last longer and do not ‘bobble’ when washed.
We have also recently launched www.letsgoplasticfree.co.uk - the home of easy lifestyle swaps.
We are growing really fast and it is exciting to see how far we have come from a complete start-up, shipping from a single cupboard, to running our own small warehouse complete with Warehouse Manager!
What can you not live without?
I cannot live without my weekly visits to my bootcamp class. I’m certainly not super fit but I really look forward to those sessions as they help clear my head and re-set my mind.
Can you tell us the most moving experience that you’ve had?
The most moving experience I’ve ever had has to be the birth of each of my sons, when I experienced more joy and elation than I’ve ever known.
What is your life motto?
Trust your instincts.
What have you learnt so far?
So much - too much to cover here! From understanding the complete financial picture (don’t forget all your hidden costs!) and getting a grip on things such as VAT and Corporation Tax, to growing your brand recognition and profile on a shoestring, there is so much to cover!
Proudest moment?
Bee Green Wraps were highly recommended in the very competitive National 2019 Gift of the Year competition run by The Giftware Association. We were delighted to have achieved this accolade so early in our growth.
What advice would you give to the younger generation?
My advice would be - if you have an idea give it a go. There has never been a better time to start your own business and the cost of entry is relatively low. My only word of caution would be, if you are selling goods, don’t make or buy too many to start with while you test the market.
What do you think makes a good company?
I think you need to love what you are doing. Passion for your products is vital. Your website represents you and responsive customer service is key.
What’s next?
We are a very young business and we hope to continue to grow Bee Green and Let’s Go Plastic Free over the next few years. Our aspiration is to become a ‘go to’ resource for anyone who wants to reduce their plastic footprint!
